There’s something that I’m very excited to share with all of you today! So for those who care to listen, thank you. I’ve been feeling ridiculously appreciative of the fact that, though it’s not easy, I get to do my passion for a living. Which pretty much leads to one thing: I’m happy. But after I got comfortable with this feeling of happy, I started to ask myself, what’s next?
God gave me a tool, the gift of dance, and though it may not be the sharpest tool there is out there, it still has the potential to build something truly magnificent and full of purpose. So then I thought of how I could use the gift that was given to do something….good.
And then it hit me….a few years ago I auditioned for and was given the privilege of dancing on Culture Shock Los Angeles. It was…INCREDIBLE, however, I wasn’t able to finish the year off because I had to move for work related reasons. When I was chasing the paper, I guess. But in the short amount of time that I was on the organization, I was blown away by everything! This wasn’t just a team of dancers…it was a family of good people. And that is an incredible thing.
[They] are a troupe of individuals, who through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people.
Straight up, hip-hop for good. The after-school programs, working with underprivileged or handicapped children, D.A.R.E. programs and other charity events, workshops to spread the knowledge and movement of true hip-hop culture, benefit shows, and overall positivity in the dance community/Los Angeles area are some of the things that this “dance” organization undertakes on top of performing together as a professional dance company. That’s freaking awesome.
So, in a nutshell, I figured that I had to go back. I wanted to figure out how to use dance as a tool for good, to not just inspire positivity, but to live it, produce it, share it, and grow from it. Thus, as I finally round the corner to the climax of this entire message, I am humbled to let you all know, that…
…I will be the Co-Artistic Director of Culture Shock Los Angeles for the 2012-2013 season alongside the wonderful Diane Danga Palaganas [last year’s CSLA Artistic Director].
Henceforth, I would like to invite anyone and everyone reading this, to help us with your talents and positive energy to truly create a better world through hip-hop by coming to our auditions on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the South Bay Dance Center [24817 S. Western Ave., Lomita CA].
Let’s all dare to be great and be a part of something amazing.
Thanks for tuning in,
Anthony
